Music

Further down you'll see a bunch of mini-sample mixtapes. What's great about mini mixtapes is that it gives you a bit of an idea of mixing capability - and what I can do but the issue with mini-mixtapes is that people can assume the music we play on these samples is exactly what we'll play at your event. That might be true if you want that style of music, but we'll design the music together so that you have some input into your playlist.

These samples have been specifically mixed for this website. Some of the transitions are cut very short to fit as many songs as possible into an abbreviated mix compilation.

Music Policy

I have a particular way of playing music that I've found gets the absolute best out of you and your dance floor.

Generally speaking, I try to play for as many people in the room as possible.

A DJ lives for a dance floor and while a full dance floor isn't the only measure of success - it is one of the measures. So if you can work with me and use the benefit of my experience and knowledge of working dance floors, I will have a much better chance of bringing about the energy and vibe you want for your guests at the end of the night.

  1. People can't dance for 4 hours straight, so I don't try to keep them on there for 4 hours - I do what's called rotating the dance floor (see No.3)
  2. Definitely tell me what music you prefer, but also tell me what music you think your guests would like to hear ... that you're ok for me to play
  3. I don't play music in a straight line - that means I won't do all one genre for 30 minutes and then change; or all older music at the start and newer music at the end. By going back and forth and across and up and down all types of music, I find I have a much better chance of keeping as many guests engaged as possible

Audio Samples

2000s(ish) Sample Mixtape

This sample features, mostly, songs from the earlier 2000s era - but I might've let a 90s banger slip in there.

Wedding Sample Mixtape

This is just a random mixture of songs that are generally pretty popular at a variety of weddings. I tried to showcase how broad a playlist I have and how I can mix across different genres.

All Ages Sample Mixtape

Similar to the above but much shorter and with a focus on upbeat dance floor tunes - but spans the 60s to the 00s, beginning with an iconic Kiwi classic through to a late 90s dance floor classic.

Bloom Boutique Wedding Fair - Fashion Show Mixtape

For those who attended the Bloom Wedding Fair at The Tannery and saw the Fashion Show. This is the music that I had mixed in the background as I was MCing the fashion show. The music for the Fashion Show was always intended to be more upbeat to keep the energy up for the models as they strutted up and down the catwalk.

This has my Club DJ slogan stamped all over it (sorry) that's simply to reduce the chance of people stealing this as their own.
